About Jackson
Meet Jackson Owens 🪡 Jacksons journey to clothing design began as a kid— gaining inspiration from his grandfather, who immigrated to New York from a small town in Greece where he had been making fur coats since 12. Absorbing the craftsmanship and tradition of garment making, Jackson went on to study clothing design in college. This lead him to launch his own label in 2020. Today, he hand makes every piece from his basement studio in New York, using premium Japanese and American milled fabrics.

Where you find inspiration?
Just looking at how clothes fit people. I don’t ever really design things or think about design I think about fit and fabrics and how those can work together to make people look nice.
What is your creative process like?
No process really! Sometimes I’ll get back home after hanging out with friends and it’ll be late and I’ll just feel like sewing so I do! It does help to have nothing else planned for a day though so I have time to think and figure out problems and not worry about having to do anything else.
What is your first exposure to ceramics/hand-building that impacted you?
First exposure to sewing was my grandfather. He made fur coats and owned a fur shop. Growing up id hang out with him and run around wearing mink shawls.
How do you overcome creative blocks?
This one is tough cause it happened often. Getting out of New York helps, being outside and then once I get back I have the energy to at least get into the studio to spend the time necessary to get over the block. Otherwise I’ll just go into the studio and then immediately turn around.
What are you currently experimenting with in your art?
Just working with friends in any capacity I can. It can be an alienating practice so it’s always really nice to have someone to work with. I love executing other peoples ideas if they’re people I respect creatively.
What is your routine before getting creative for the day?
Pray and hope I end up making something I actually like.
