COMUNE contributor and fashion photographer Magdalena Wosinska came with us on our "RUN TO THE RIVER" trip to AZ a couple weekends ago. Needless to say we had a blast! Check out these photos. If you're offended by mild nudity don't click.

Highlights included Luke surfing his bike, Greg and Keri’s naked midnight motorcycle ride, a sketchy rope swing off the side of the freeway, and shooting guns in the desert. Not to mention Ethan’s all-over hamburger Wal Mart shirt that provided us with hours of laughter. Especially when he went into Burger King to order a Whopper and blew the clerks mind.

Magdalena also plays in the LA metal band Green and Wood. Check them out at: www.greenandwood.com

COMUNE friends and family recently took a trip to Parker Arizona to get out of the city and camp for a few days by the Colorado River. We had an amazing trip. Check out some of the photos.

We took the day off work on Friday and assembled at the COMUNE office in downtown LA. As soon as everyone arrived and got their gear in order we navigated out of LA and hit the open road. The weather was perfect and we made great time riding out to the desert. We stopped at the famous Dinosaurs in Cabazon and had lunch at the dinner. After a quick rest and gas up we hit the road. We encountered a couple technical difficulties with bikes breaking down and a flat tire but it wouldn’t be a ride without a couple of breakdowns.

We arrived at our campsite in Parker Arizona in the evening just in time to witness a legendary Arizona sunset on the River. Macho speed boats roared by our site as well as the occasional jet skier buzzing around. We broke out the grill and immediately started making dinner. Burgers, hot dogs, chips and all kinds of camp food where quickly devoured by our hungry crew. There was no shortage of ice cold PBR’s which quenched our thirst and led to a debaucherous evening at camp. There was a speedboat bar down the shore from our camp that we stopped by and had some drinks. The locals were having a great time and everyone was being wild. Crusty old biker dudes were crushing beers and telling stories about the old days. Ladies of all ages, shapes, and sizes were dumping em’ out and generally not giving a f%@K about what anyone thought. River culture has no shortage of characters and we met quite a few.

The next day we shook off our hang overs, relaxed and swam in the river all day. A few of us enjoyed a helmet free ride 90 miles South to Laughlin, AZ for the famous motorcycle rally. COMUNE/Drop City contributor Magda Wosinska went along for the ride to Laughlin and shot some photos we’ll be dropping soon. Highlights include a rope swing and a naked midnight motorcycle ride!

Our road weary, sunburnt travelers got back late Sunday night and we all had a hell of a time. Hope you can come along for the next ride this June to King’s Canyon! See ya!

COMUNE snowboarders Curtis Woodman and Gray Thompson recently returned from an epic trip to Alaska. Take a little time to read Gray's story and look at his photos from their amazing adventure.

ALASKA by Gray Thompson:

This past April my good friend Curtis Woodman and myself took a snowboarding trip that would change our lives forever. Alaska, otherwise known as the last frontier, has been on the agenda of snowboarders for over twenty years now. I personally have been dreaming of the place for ten years, half of my existence on this planet.

Back in November 2011, Curtis and I made a pact and decided that no matter what happened, we would make it to Alaska at any cost. For me, this meant acquiring a credit card and maxing it out in a day. I did this with the reasoning that money comes and goes, but experiences can carry through a lifetime. The snow season seemed to fly by with the date of our departure nearing closer and closer. Suddenly April 3rd came around and with my nerves fired up, I threw way too much gear into three oversized bags and boarded the jetliner.

For the most part snowfall in the lower forty eight states was hit or miss. We were more than excited to bask in the record snow Alaska was recieving. Curtis and I both purchased life insurance in the form of “airbag” avalanche backpacks. This along with our other hundereds of pounds of snowboard gear made us feel like we were ready for anything the mountains could challenge us with.

We rented a 30ft RV in anchorage which provided us with a slow, yet relaxing six hour postcard-esque drive to our destination; Thompson Pass. “Tailgate Alaska” was going down while we were there, providing constant entertainment by wasted snow-goers, loud snowmobiles, helicopters buzzing overhead, and headaches. It seemed like Curtis and I weren’t the only ones with the Alaska fever.

Our days would begin with a monster breakfast around ten o’clock, then we would embark on an average four hour skin, climbing three to four thousand vertical feet. All while snowmachines and helicopters seemed to buzz by us, overhead, and left and right. All we had were split boards and our own two feet, and we were more than happy. We decided there was no better way to truly enjoy the terrain and be humbled by these ridiculously large mountains than to hike them step by step. Everyday the jaw dropping hikes would open up to jaw dropping views, as the mountains would tower over us like we were ants. Now, running on fumes, we would begin ascending the line we chose to ride that day. Yes, line; in the singular tense, as it would take nearly half the day just to reach the top. I’ve never felt so alive in years, my mind would curse at me while my body inched forward on a two foot wide knife edged ridge. A fall on either side of the ridge would surely end in serious injury or death.

Finally, after burning through the energy supply of both breakfast and lunch, and finishing off all my water, the easy part of the day began; actual snowboarding. Once I dropped in on what would be the steepest pitch I had ever been on, gravity would guide me effortlessly down thousands of feet in a matter of seconds. A simple air off a cliff would turn into a free-fall out of the sky, met gracefully by an impact-less landing due to the steep pitch and quality of the powder. I enjoyed turn after turn of perfect powder as the vertical feet I had worked so hard for blasted by. The thrill I experienced was something I have spent fourteen years searching for. It was something I can only describe as the pinnacle of my snowboarding experience. After putting my body and mind through such a rigorous journey day after day, it became perfectly clear to me why Alaska has always been, and always will be the most acclaimed destination ever to ride a snowboard.

“I believe painting is a window into an artist’s soul. An artist can convey ideas beyond words, changing the viewer’s perception of the world. Art is not a luxury but a necessary part of existence. It can reveal the very essence of life, showing us our weaknesses and sorrows, but also lifting us to incredible heights of joy.” –Gregory Hayes
