Yesterday I stopped by COMUNE/Drop City artist Bryan Schnelle’s studio for a visit. I was really impressed by the scale of his work as well as how productive he is.
We had a couple beers and dicussed his growing body of work. It was great to see his work in person because looking at it online doesn’t do it justice. His work is so labor intensive and tedious. This work would look amazing in a large gallery.

This is only 1/3 of a large scale piece Bryan is working on. Each page is torn from magazines with the background sharpied out. The entire piece will be comprised of 733 pages. The letters go together to spell out the lyrics to Motorhead’s “Orgazmatron”.

Detail.

Stacked finished work.

“Holy Mountain”, the scale is really impressive.

Old leather.

“Freddie and Franie” dyptic.

This is the work area where Bryan meticulously Sharpies out the background of his work.

Here’s another project Bryan’s working on. He’s hand painting each page of Vogue’s famous September issue.

Each page is painted out with “White-out” and masks Sharpied in.

Only 700 pages to go.

Some of Byan’s collage work.

Gotta keep those windows open to ventalate all the Sharpie and White-out fumes.

Mandatory Angel of Death.

Home Sweet Home.
