I sat down with COMUNE/Drop City photographer, snowboarder, gun enthusiast, and all around Renaissance man Robbie Sell to chat about guns, sausage on maple bars, and snowboarding, you know, guy shit… CS: Robbie my man, how are you? How’s Reno life treating you? RS: Life is grand, especially in Reno, if you want it to be. I’ve been spending more time in Tahoe lately, hittin up the slopes and taking pictures of snowboarding stunts. CS: How many guns do you own? RS: hmmm, I suppose 4. A pistol, a tactical riot shotgun, an AKM-47, and a bb gun. CS: Tell..

CS: Robbie my man, how are you? How’s Reno life treating you?
RS: Life is grand, especially in Reno, if you want it to be. I’ve been spending more time in Tahoe lately, hittin up the slopes and taking pictures of snowboarding stunts.
CS: How many guns do you own?
RS: hmmm, I suppose 4. A pistol, a tactical riot shotgun, an AKM-47, and a bb gun.
CS: Tell me about this new culinary delight you created tonight?
RS: Just to avoid being predictable, I cooked a gourmet sausage and put it in a maple bar donut. I gotta tell ya, it’s amazing.
CS: How has snowboard photography been treating you these days? You were pro for many years. Are you as happy behind the lens as in front of it?
RS: I really love photography, and it’s very gratifying when I get the picture I envisioned. Unfortunately, the media outlets are getting less, and I don’t get published as much as I would hope, which is unfortunate for the rider’s effort too. It’s really difficult to make a living off of it these days, but I suppose I fall into the “starving artist” category, which aint too bad.
CS: I like your new mustache. You kinda look like an old timey bicycle rider. Has it been a hit with the ladies or what?
RS: My first experience with my stache and a lady was on valentines day just recently, and I made it to first base. So, it’s life is still young…
CS: You’re also a contributor for Fuel.tv What’s that all about? Where can we check out your features?
RS: Yep, they approached me last summer about becoming their snowboarding web editor, and I took it. I write interviews, report the snowboard world’s news, and publish photos and videos. It’s great to still be involved with my old snow homeys. I do updates daily, at http://www.fuel.tv/snowboarding
CS: Where do you mostly snowboard at these days?
RS: I mostly have been riding with friends at the resorts, riding the parks in a fashion to where people hate me… I ride a big board with razor sharp edges and cut back n’ forth across the run ripping turns to every feature and am not afraid to cut people off. I’m a bigger fan of freeriding in the trees and mountain lines though. I don’t slide rails anymore, just bonkin.
CS: Who are some up and coming snowboarders you’ve been shooting this year?
RS: Up and coming might be vague, but Ben Rice, TK tha scrilla, Andrew Brewer, Johnny Lazz, a couple VideoGrass crews, and some other Lake Tahoe locals. Soon I’ll joining up with the hotshot pros, and getting some ads out of it I’m hoping.
CS: Do you kinda think snowboarders these days are pussies? Haha!
RS: Yes, I ask them, “What would Wittlake do?” Not that I can do what they’re trying, but gahdamit, scare yourself once in a while. Try to impress the true pros and girls out there!
CS: Thanks Robbie. Always a pleasure hangin with you.
RS: Likewise.
